Tuesday Tips & Tricks: How to create a card from scratch.?
Getting into card making can feel overwhelming—catalogs full of tools, talk of embossing, dies, and fancy folds. Don’t worry, we’ll keep it simple.
Start with the Basics: Stamps, Ink, & Paper.
Stamps:
• Choose a versatile set—florals work for almost any occasion.
• If your set has no greetings, add an all-occasion sentiment set.
• Two main types:
• Cling (red rubber): durable, foam-backed stamp.
• Photopolymer stamp: clear, great for placement (use a foam mat underneath).
• You’ll need clear acrylic blocks—start with sizes D, C, & I.
Ink:
• Pick a few colors that work with your stamp set.
• Black Ink: Memento for coloring with alcohol markers, Staz-On for waterproof stamping.
• White ink or VersaMark are great extras for special effects.
Paper:
• Solid cardstock in a few favorite colors + Basic White or Very Vanilla.
• Designer Series Paper (patterned) instantly makes cards look polished.
Tools & Adhesive:
• Paper trimmer.
• Multipurpose liquid glue + Dimensionals (foam dots).
• Envelopes to finish it off.
Tips:
• There’s no “perfect” card—smudges happen, and handmade means heartfelt.
• Practice on scrap paper.
• Find a friend to stamp with—it’s more fun (and often full of laughter).
Start simple, enjoy the process, and before you know it, you’ll have a stash of cards you’re proud to share!
